John Runowicz

John Michael Runowicz is an actor, musician and scholar. Under the name John Michael Hersey, his acting credits include the Iona College production of Conor McPherson's The Weir, Theater for the New City productions of William Electric Black’s The Whites and Betty and the Belrays, and the La Mama production of Tennessee Williams' Not about Nightingales. He has released sixteen albums of his music including the 2022 album, The Fall. For many years he was the musical director, guitarist and second tenor for the legendary doo-wop group Speedo and the Cadillacs. In 2010, UMass Press published his book, Forever Doo-wop: Race, Nostalgia, and Vocal Harmony, based on his doctoral research. He also serves as Manager of Creative Arts at The Fortune Society, a non-profit that provides services for people involved with the criminal justice system.
