National honor society for students of French language and literature

Pi Delta Phi Seal

Founded in 1906, Pi Delta Phi is the highest academic honor in the field of French and the oldest academic honor society for a modern foreign language in the United States. The purpose of the society is to:

  • recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and Francophone literatures
  • increase appreciation of the French-speaking world and their cultural contributions 
  • stimulate and encourage French and Francophone cultural activities

The Manhattan University chapter, Iota Pi, was established in 1983.

Eligibility

To qualify for membership, undergraduates must:

  • have junior or senior class standing
  • have completed five university courses in French with a grade of B or better
  • be in the top 35% of the class
