Manhattan University announced the continuation of the James Patterson ’69 Scholarships to students for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is the 13th consecutive year that the bestselling author and philanthropist has supported his undergraduate alma mater with these scholarships. The scholarships were awarded to juniors and seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, financial need, and involvement in activities aligned with the University’s Lasallian mission.
Said Frederick Bonato, Ph.D., Manhattan University Interim President, “We are incredibly grateful to Jim for his unwavering support of Manhattan. These scholarships positively affect the lives of the selected students – among our best – who have worked diligently to achieve academic success. These awards are in addition to the newly created James Patterson Honors Program at Manhattan University, which Jim will co-direct. He clearly serves as a wonderful role model for all Manhattan University students.”
Added Patterson, “It gives me great pleasure to continue this tradition at my undergraduate alma mater. The challenges facing higher education today are plentiful, and making these scholarships available to deserving students is so very important to me. I have high expectations that these young women and men soon will become leaders in their chosen fields thanks to the solid academics and the Lasallian mission that prevails at Manhattan University.”
The scholarship program allocates $5,000 each academic year to each of the recipients. Additionally, during the spring semester, the awarded seniors are eligible to apply for one of four $2,500 awards based on essay submissions that detail their plans upon graduation.
