Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering is the design, development, testing, and supervision of electrical equipment. This equipment allows people to access information and communicate globally, as well as transmit power from distant sources to demand centers.

Why Choose Electrical Engineering?

This badge signifies our electrical engineering program is a stem-designated program.

Electrical engineers work in an exciting, ever-evolving field. At Manhattan University, the ABET-accredited electrical engineering program teaches you the physical and engineering principles needed to design and operate:

  • electronic and medical devices
  • wiring in buildings
  • biomedical instrumentation
  • power grids
  • communication systems
  • nanotechnology
  • defense systems

Hands-On Learning

Our students learn by doing. You will gain practical firsthand experience through lab sessions, research projects and a design capstone course in which you will design your own devices and systems as part of a team.

Some topics our students have recently studied include:

  • bioelectrical engineering and bio-instrumentation
  • bioinformatics
  • cybersecurity systems
  • energy conversion, alternative energy
  • electromagnetics, photonics, biophotonics, nanophotonics
  • sensors, device miniaturization and instrumentation
  • robotics, unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles

Program Concentrations

Concentrations reinforce the broad relevance of the powerful problem-solving methodologies of engineering, and illuminate enabling technologies for applications of technology. The following concentrations are available to electrical engineering students:

  • Applied Artificial Intelligence in Electrical Engineering (9 credits)
  • Cybersecurity in Electrical Engineering (9 credits)
  • Power Grids and Green Energy Engineering (9 credits)

Research Opportunities

In addition to regular coursework, Manhattan University offers opportunities for undergraduates to do research during the summer directly with a faculty member. As a research scholar, you receive a stipend along with support and guidance from the Center for Graduate School and Fellowship Advisement to help you develop the intellectual, interpersonal, and research skills necessary to competitively apply to graduate schools, professional schools, and other fellowships.

What Will You Learn?

You will learn the fundamentals of electrical engineering and computer science. When you graduate with a B.S. in electrical engineering, you will have an in-depth knowledge of:

  • electrical systems
  • electromagnetism
  • applied electromagnetics
  • optics

What Will You Do?

A degree in electrical engineering leads to jobs in a variety of settings, from top companies like IBM and ExxonMobil to independent start ups looking to fulfill a consumer need.

The professors at Manhattan went to great lengths to ensure I was confident about the material in classes I took, which has led me to be confident about my work today as an electrical designer for Con Edison. I have taken this experience with me as I continue to succeed and excel in my career as an electrical engineer.
